Drug Uses
Levitra (Bayer brand) is used to treat erectile dysfunction. It increases the body`s ability to achieve and maintain an erection during sexual stimulation.

How Taken
Levitra comes as a tablet to take in orally. The general recommendation is to take it as needed, one hour before sexual activity. This drug should not be taken more than once a day. Levitra can be taken with or without a meal.

Warnings/Precautions
You may need a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment or you may not be able to take Levitra at all if you have at the moment or have a history of- a heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeats, angina (chest pain),congestive heart failure; have high or low blood pressure; have a personal or family history of a rare heart condition known as prolongation of the QT interval (long QT syndrome); have liver, kidney or blood problems, including sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia; have a bleeding or blood clotting disorder; have a stomach ulcer; a family history of degenerative eye disease (e.g., retinitis pigmentosa); or have a physical deformity of the penis such as Peyronie's disease. Patients over 65 years old may be more sensitive to Levitra and a re more likely to experience side effects. These patients may require a lower dose and/or special monitoring during treatment. Levitra is not indicated to be used by women and should not be taken by women; however, this drug is in the FDA pregnancy category B. Which means that animal–reproduction studies have not demonstrated a fatal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women, or animal–reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the first trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters).

Missed Dose
Levitra is taken when needed, so it is not likely to miss a dose.

Possible Side Effects
Some of the possible side effects of Levitra are- headaches, flushing stuffy or runny nose, an erection that will not go away (priapism). If you get an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours, get medical help promptly. Priapism should be treated as soon as possible or lasting damage can happen to your penis including the inability to have erections. Vision changes, such as seeing a blue tinge to objects or having difficulty telling the difference between the colors blue and green are also possible. Storage
Store this medication at room temperature 15–30°C (59–86°F). Keep away from children and excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the possible symptoms of Levitra overdose are- chest pain, back pain, dizziness, an irregular heartbeat, abnormal vision and swelling of the ankles or legs.

More Information
If Levitra is taken together with certain medicines, such as nitrates and alpha–blockers, and recreational drugs that contain nitrates called "poppers", it may cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly to an unsafe level or cause other serious side effects. Do not take Levitra if your doctor decides that sexual activity poses a health risk for you or if you are sensitive or allergic to any component of Levitra. This drug does not protect from HIV (AIDS) or any other sexually transmitted diseases.
